Congratulations to Carol DeMatteo

Congratulations to Carol Dematteo, who with Co-PI Steve Hanna
and their research team, published an important paper today in the Journal of Pediatrics about childhood concussion. The study of 300 children found that despite the severity of the injury, children with the concussion label stayed fewer days in hospital than those labeled brain or head injury . Children labeled with a concussion also spent fewer days away from school. The article discusses the need to ensure that parents and children understand that a concussion indicates a brain injury.

Information about the study findings is in major newspapers and TV news sites, including Andre Picard's column in the Globe and Mail. Carol was also interviewed on CBC Metro Morning with Andy Barrie. Here are the links to the article in the Globe and Hamilton Spectator - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health/concussion-needs-a-new-name-researchers-say/article1434162/ and http://www.thespec.com/article/706952.
