Admission Requirements

The MSc Course-based option in Rehabilitation Science is offered on a part-time basis only.

To be eligible for entry into the MSc Course-based Program in Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University, applicants must have:
  • Graduated from a Physical or Occupational Therapy Entry-level Degree Program or a four (4) year health relevant program, with a minimum of a B+ average in the final year of the program.
Additional Admission Information:
  • Degrees and grades from foreign universities are evaluated for their equivalency to a McMaster University four (4) year undergraduate degree.
  • Prospective applicants who do not hold a four (4) year undergraduate degree, but who have several years of work experience that is relevant to the program, should discuss their situation with the Program Coordinator.
    • Additional courses may be required under these circumstances. Evidence of ability to do graduate work will still be required.

English Language Proficiency

If the applicant's native language is not English, an official copy of their TOEFL score (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test report form is required. These test results need to be less than 2 years old. McMaster's TOEFL Institution code is 0936.

*Applicants who have completed an academic ESL program through Canadian academic institutions may petition to have this considered in lieu of TOEFL.

Application Process

To apply to the MSc course-based option in Rehabilitation Science, you will need to complete the online application and submit the application fee. You will also be required to send the following items in support of your application by the deadline.

  1. Official transcript of all university and post-secondary experience.
  2. Two (2) academic references. Applicants have the option of providing one (1) work-related reference in addition to two (2) academic references.
  3. An up-to-date curriculum vitae.
  4. Written application outlining clinical interests and experience, learning expectations and goals.
  5. If applicable, evidence of eligibility to be registered in your professional affiliation.
  6. If applicable, evidence of competency in English.
  7. If applicable, a declaration of any disabilities, as well as details concerning accommodations provided by your educational institution(s). Please refer to section 6.5 of the School of Graduate Studies website for more information.

Orthopaedic Musculoskeletal-Manipulative Physical Therapy (OMPT) Area of Specialization Field of Study Admission Criteria

The MSc Course-based option, area of specialization in OMPT, in Rehabilitation Science is offered on a part-time basis only.

To be eligible for entry into the MSc Course-based Program in the Orthopaedic Musculoskeletal-Manipulative Physical Therapy (OMPT) Area of Specialization Field of Study in Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University, applicants must have:
  • A four (4) year pass or honours or graduate-entry Master or professional doctorate degree in physiotherapy.
  • Completed five (5) years full-time relevant professional experience (or equivalent) with two (2) years in a specialty area.
  • Produced evidence of continuing professional education including Ortho Div Level II-III to apply but need Level III Exams, Intermediate Practical Exam, 90 mentorship hours from Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) Orthopaedic Division or equivalent prior to initiating the clinical course REHAB 715. Advanced standing for Orthopaedic Division Level IV/V are recognized. This is a CAMPT recognized program.
  • Met admission requirements to the MSc (RS) course-based option (listed above) or received permission from the Program Coordinator.
