Dr. Brooks is a Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science and is the Vice-Dean (Health Sciences) and Executive Director, School of Rehabilitation Science. Dr. Brooks is a Professor who is recognized as a leader in cardiorespiratory rehabilitation and is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. She held a Canada Research Chair in Rehabilitation and COPD. Her research experience has included varied models and different research approaches.
Dr. Brooks is an alumna of University of Toronto, completing a Bachelor of Science degree in physiotherapy in 1988, a Master of Science degree in 1990 and a PhD in 1997. She joined the faculty at the University of Toronto as an associate professor in 1999 and has been full professor since 2011. She is a long-time scientist at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and senior scientist in respiratory medicine at West Park Healthcare Centre in Toronto.
Keywords: pulmonary rehabilitation, lung disease, COPD, exercise, physical activity, stroke
Dr. Brooks is presently involved in research in two main patient populations: individuals with chronic lung disease and those with cardiovascular disease. In the area of chronic lung disease, she is involved in several clinical trials on the effectiveness of different components and modes of delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation. In cardiovascular rehabilitation, she is investigating the effectiveness of exercise training in individuals after stroke.
Dr. Brooks will be accepting 1 to 2 PhD students. Interested students should send a CV and research interests to firstname.lastname@example.org.
